Innovative Interventions
Orange Farm Male Circumcision Pilot
Three randomised control trials (South Africa, Uganda and Kenya) proved that male circumcision provides approximately 60% protection against female-to-male HIV transmission.

SFH is working with its partner Progressus, a research organisation, in a male circumcision research project in the Orange Farm community near Johannesburg. The objective of this research is to make safe medical male circumcision available to men in Orange Farm in order to study the community-level impact on HIV prevention.
SFH's role in is to provide HIV counseling and testing services and male circumcision counseling to men interested in circumcision and to promote male circumcision through community education. This is the first project of its kind in South Africa and will provide valuable lessons learned to future male circumcision for HIV prevention interventions.
