Public Sector Distribution

Public Sector Distribution is an initiative between SFH and the National Department of Health (NDOH). This close partnership is designed to ensure the successful distribution and accessibility of the NDOH's free Choice condom brand in order to achieve a positive health impact. SFH assists the NDOH and its provincial STI coordinators to improve the quality of its distribution by building the capacity of local NGOs.

Distribution takes place primarily, but not entirely, through non-traditional outlets including high-transmission areas with particular emphasis on "Presidential Nodes", townships and surrounding vicinities. These areas are targeted because of the increased likelihood of high-risk sexual behaviours and activities. High-risk activities include transactional sex, multiple and concurrent partnerships, sex acts occurring under the influence of alcohol and other conditions that increase the likelihood of contracting HIV or other sexually transmitted infections.

Furthermore SFH conducts bi-annual Monitoring Access & Performance (MAP) research to track distribution coverage, quality of coverage and access to Choice condoms.
